Orthodox Catechism Class
Orthodox Catechism Class Begins November 23, 2024!
Are you interested in deepening your understanding of the Christian faith through the teachings and traditions of the Orthodox Church? Do you want to know what the Ancient Faith looked like and worshipped like from the time of Christ's Disciples?
Join us for our weekly Catechism Class starting on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, as we journey through the foundational aspects of Orthodox Christianity together.
What to Expect
Over the course of our time together, we’ll explore key topics that shape the Orthodox faith, including:
- The reliability and trustworthiness of the Bible
- The history and significance of the Ecumenical Councils
- Essential Orthodox Christian doctrines and dogma
- Comparative theology and understanding other Christian traditions
- The sacraments, liturgical practices, and Orthodox Christian rituals
- Theology, Church history, and the beauty and richness of Orthodox Christian traditions
This class is open to everyone, regardless of background knowledge or experience in Orthodox Christianity. Through engaging sessions, we aim to give you a solid understanding of Orthodox Christian beliefs and a confident grasp of Biblical interpretation and Orthodox Christian doctrine, as continued from the Early Church.
Goal of the Catechism
By the end of the course, our prayer is that you’ll be more assured in articulating Orthodox Christian faith and values, confident in defending the hope within you, and knowledgeable in explaining the tenets of the Orthodox Christian faith. We will also offer an exam at the conclusion of the catechism to help solidify your learning.

FAQ for Catechism Class
1. What should I bring with me to class?
Bring an open heart and ears and an attitude of learning and love. Also, bring your Bible, a notebook and pen to jot down notes.
2. Who is this class for? Can I attend if I’m not Orthodox? Can I attend if I am Orthodox?
Yes, this class is open to all those that want to know more about the Orthodox Church – whether you are Orthodox or not, this class is open to all!
3. Can I bring a friend?
Yes, absolutely! Please, invite your friends, family and colleagues!
4. Will this class be in-person or online?
We must develop the right knowledge (orthodoxia) and form a Christian character, which is to live and apply Christian truth (orthopraxia) – both of which happen through discipleship and this happens in person. These classes will be in-person in the big church, with attendance taken for those wishing to receive a certificate after the cycle is taught. Recordings will be made to those who have attended the class.
5. Will there be an opportunity to ask questions?
Yes, there should be a few minutes at the end of each class to ask your questions and we ask that you hold your questions to the end, as the material covered may answer your question. Due to time restrictions, as there will be Vespers service promptly right after the class at a set time, it may not be possible to get to all or some of the questions. There will be a Google Forms link in the class where you can submit your questions during or after the class and they will be answered either during class or at the Q&A session at the end of the cycle.
6. Will there be materials provided?
At the beginning and end of the class, attendees will be given the Google Classroom code, which you will use to sign up for the class you are attending and in the Google Classroom an outline will be provided.
7. How long are these classes for?
There are 26 classes that cover History, Theology and Dogma, Holy Scripture and Tradition, Sacraments and Liturgy and Worship.
8. What level are these classes being taught at? Do I need to be advanced in knowledge before attending?
Not at all! This class is not being taught at a seminary level – you do not need to know deep theological concepts in order to attend, though basic Christian principles are helpful. The goal is for all of us to learn together more about God and to develop and deepen in our relationship with Him.
9. What if I have more questions not answered here?
Please either speak with Fr Meena or Fr Ermia or please email us at orthodoxcatechismclass@gmail.com and we will respond back to you as soon as we possibly can.
